Any LPNs in Telemetry out there?

    Hey everyone:

I'm looking to hear from LPN's working in Telemetry.  I  received a formal offer of employment working on the telemetry floor at a local area hospital in WPB, FL.  I haven't attended any orientation yet, waiting for background checks to clear this week. I'm excited and nervous as well.  Can anyone give a heads up or suggestions to ease the transition?  Thanks!

It isn't what I say, but what I do that should matter!

I know you wrote a while ago. I hope you got the job. I have been in critical care almost 25 years. Telemetry was how I worked my way in. I love critical care--fewer patients that are sicker--but much more challangeing. I feel much more like a nurse instead of a maid.

    Hi

I worked several yrs in a stepdown unit with rotation to the telementry room- you will enjoy it--just a lot of sitting and watching heart monitors-covering  the whole hospital --unless they have a seperate ICU  monitoring area.the hospital i was at 4-5 monitor techs watched over 100 pts on monitors each shift--some hospitals have 3 -8hrs shifts and some hire 2 -12hr shifts i was blessed to get 8hr shifts and occassionally would work a double shift if there was a call in..

I worked in telemetry for many years. It is exciting and fun and a great learning experience. I had to take a course to work there. Are they giving you any special training in ekg interpretation, pacemakers, etc? Good Luck!

Yes I have worked in telemetry/picu unit for 6 yrs now ..I love it!!!! I had to take critical care course and telemetry course but it was worth it, I work on a stepdown unit now in charge of 5 pts, with 2 rns, we all work independently, and give our own report and such, they just cover in case of pushes that I am not allowed to do....It is a good setup, we all get along, but not always the case everywhere......
