Richard,
I am truly sorry to hear you say this. Sounds to me like you are unwilling to do what you know will help your career in this field. I wish you the very best.
Good luck, with your stubborness, you are likely to need it.

Hi Richard,
I always enjoy an active discourse with you!
I think the reason so many managers will accept the ASCP certification is that the person with it is a ''known'' variable in terms of their knowledge base. It is expensive to hire and train a person. I am all for investing in the staff, but I need to know before I hire them that they ...

Greg,
If it was only supply and demand why do so many lab workers work 2-3 jobs? If the jobs paid better I am sure that they would only work one.
If education does not matter and should not make a difference for pay, why do we have CLIA88 or any entry educational requirement? I think that many MLTs have the chip, not the MTs, I truly believe ...

Oh Wow, this shows how much clinical laboratorians need an upgrade in salaries. Hell, Federal minimum wage will catch up with our salaries soon.
I agree with you Richard we are underpaid, from the phleb to the lab manager.

Hi Richard,
I certainly understand that you are upset with the inability to secure a position in a hospital or reference clinical lab. In the Chicago area I know that MLTs are hired with quite a bit of regularity. To be sure I have seen MLTs who can run circles around MTs, but MTs have more (more specialized if not greater) ...

I would like to agree with your wondering how someone who could not get into a nursing program, would gain entry into a med tech program. Unfortunately I have an idea on how that could be, the tech programs are not in high demand (at least in Illinois) by students and therefore often the admissions committee is less selective then would be ...

Wow, $32.36/hr median, that is just a dream here where the starting pay for a Med Tech (not a MLT or PHB) is about $18.00/hr and top pay is about $26.00/hr.

While I am in the process of completely moving on...(leaving the clin lab after I am done with the post doc)...I will not completely dismiss being a lab tech...but while I will say the experience is a good one to have...I am not really sure that I will include it on my CV...as it is certainly no asset outside (or really even inside) the clin ...

As an undergrad in med tech school we did have a similar course. It did well to stimulate interest and membership in the professional organizations for the new grads. Unfortunately on the occasions that I have spoke to my classmates and the class before and after...many have left the field in frustration...and those who did not definitely stopped ...

Though this is indeed welcome news...it is not the be all and end all in stem cell research. The reason for this is that in taking the genome back to a pluripotent state involves reactivating genes that have been silenced (many of them in a permanant manner such as methylation). Doing such can introduce mutations, and inactive conformational ...
