I worked at a home health agency that had students in clinicals from the Univ of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that were in an accelerated 12 month program like you are inquiring about. The students I mentored found the courses intense and obviously accelerated, but having a prior bachelors degree should be helpful. What is your bachelors in? The 2 students I ...

This sounds like a wonderful concept, but I would think you would need specifically designed rooms to accomodate the extra people. I know this works well in a pediatric setting. Not all family members may want to be there with their loved one.

I would think your critical thinking skills alone would make you an asset. There is nothing wrong with being a generalist in peds. Keep working on your goal, some of this could be jealously...''sour grapes'' on their part.

Wow ! Hard to believe isn't it. I am 51 and recently changed positions and did not encounter anything like this. I am not new to nursing, having been an RN since 1978, but recently, just obtained my BSN. Perhaps you should work in another setting for awhile to better prepare your assessment skills, etc and then try applying at a hospital ...

If you are an hourly employee, they must pay you an on call wage, as well as time and a half if you come back in and work over 8 hrs/day or 40/wk. The issue of call-ins is bad in LTC, our NH has instituted a policy, that if you call-in on your w/e to work, you work the following w/e to make it up. Try this policy, and I will bet your call-ins ...

I think one of the most important aspects for any nurse or nursing student is to use your common sense and be empathic. If you do not know something, ask! Never guess! The instructor will be glad to know you ask first if you do not understnad. Be on time to clinical and be prepared, know the meds you are passing and common SE, also the purpose, ...

I would concentrate my CE classes in areas of interest to me. If you work in ICU, go to those type of seminars, in a NH go to a geriatric seminar, etc.., if you are interested in wound care and new treatments, attend a wound care class. Also look at the website by Medscape, I believe it is www.medscape.com/

In my opinion, the nursing dept is the only dept that can fire her. If she is doing a good/great job, her supervisor should be ''going to bat for her''. I would speak to someone in Nursing at the hospital and go from ther.

Yes. The University of Phoenix online is completely on line. I just received my BSN from there in June 2007. I thought it was a very good program. It has 5 week courses that are 3 credit courses. It also has you work in teams for group projects.
