I am looking for contacts of other OTs working in children's cancer. I am funded to complete a project looking at best practice in OT for children with cancer and am hoping to pick brains! It's a great opportunity to strengthen our profession. Any ideas of therapists to contact? Or any great supporting research/ journal ...

Yes I have been through the process- it is lengthy and somewhat frustrating. I would say the whole process (from initially applying to finding out my exam result) was around 10 months. So be prepared for that!! There are lots of documents to fill out that all need to be done in different stages. Your university also needs to complete ...

I am an Australian OT currently looking at how our state should utilize OT services for children with cancer. I need to benchmark with other countries and am wondering if people know of some established pediatric OT services in the US. Any suggestions of hospitals to contact? I am also interested in hearing from people working in peds oncology ...

Any other OTs out there working in procedural pain with children? I am very interested in other peoples ideas about distractions that are favourites with the kids- toys, rhymes, songs- I am always looking for new ideas and trying to keep things exciting and fresh for the kids that are recurrent admissions.

I haven't taken the exam yet. I bought the study guide by Cottrell called ''National Occupational Therapy Certification Exam'' from www.therapyed.com and it is really helpful for study. I also took the free practice exam they had on their website.
I would really like to hear from people who have taken the exam already as to common conditions ...

I use a Wii in sessions with a child with hemiparesis post brain injury. It is such a motivating and functional way to incorporate active movement in his affected upper limb. I haven't used it with adult clients, but I enjoy it a lot too during our sessions! We use the Wii sports which are great for OT upper limb sessions- especially tennis.

How old is the child? How is the child managing in the classroom? Does he have an aide? Is he verbal?
Many autistic children benefit from a daily planner of the days events. It can be extremely useful to set up a visual picture schedule e.g. 10am OT with a photo of you, 12pm lunch with a picture of food, 3.30 home time with a picture waving ...

Can you give us some clues about what the exam was like? Were there any themes in style of questioning, diagnoses or assessments that appeared frequently or other relevant themes? Now that you have sat the exam do you have any suggestions for study?

The child is 7 years old, non verbal and very low functioning. Does not tend to seek out activities as such- needs to be lead to any activity or will simply stim by flicking hands. Requires co-active assistance for all activities. Does appear to enjoy banging on drums and vestibular play when encouraged. Requires ...

I am a foreign trained OT planning to work in California early next year. I have my application in with NBCOT (which seems to be taking months) and am interested in the experiences of others. How long did others find the process took? Are conditions in the US different to other countries? (I have previously worked in the UK and Australia). How ...
