  • Flashy New Logos

Check out the slick new logos for the AAPA conference. Although I liked the old-style logos, I also think the academy was probably due for a change. Square logo on right side of home page Top banner logo The conference will be in San Diego from May 23-28, 2009.

  • San Antonio Revisited

I tried to wrap up the AAPA conference blog posts three weeks ago because I felt like the topic was getting a little stale, but the June 30 issue of AAPA News is chock full of articles from San Antonio. Some tidbits: The two-page article on the International PA Symposium is interesting. There is a detailed rehash of the May AAPA board of ...

  • PA Students Oppose Entry-Level PA Doctorates

The Student Academy of the AAPA Assembly of Representatives did debate PA doctorate degrees in San Antonio and came out against entry-level PA doctorates. From the May 27 AAPA News Conference Daily (under the bland headline ''AOR Approves 24 Resolutions''): We resolve that the Student Academy opposes any effort to provide doctoral ...

  • Is It Time to Rethink the AAPA HOD?

I am a devoted fan of the AAPA House of Delegates and have attended the HOD at 12 consecutive AAPA conferences. The last few years, I’ve attended the HOD from beginning to end (although I admit to skipping out on the last few standing ovations for departing AAPA EVP Steve Crane in Philadelphia in 2007). I have learned a ton about the profession ...

  • Back from San Antonio

The ADVANCE Blog for PAs is officially back from the AAPA conference in San Antonio. The conference was outstanding, as always. There's no substitute for having thousands of PAs together in one place. An estimated 6,200 PAs and PA students attended the conference, a slight increase from the 2007 conference in Philadelphia. But the ...

  • On the Positive Side

SAN ANTONIO—I don't want to give the impression from the last two posts that I have negative feelings about the 2008 AAPA conference. While I do feel that the attendance is disappointing and that the House of Delegates missed a unique opportunity to debate the single hottest topic in the profession—PA doctorate degrees—I think the conference is ...

  • No PA Doctorate Debate?

SAN ANTONIO—It looks as if the AAPA House of Delegates will not debate the issue of PA-specific doctorate degrees in 2008. The academy's board of directors spent a significant amount of time discussing a possible emergency resolution to the HOD on the issue on Friday, but ultimately opted not to make such a resolution. In the end, ...
