  • Go group work, go group work, go!

Reflecting on this past weekend of college, I have one thing to say:   If you are thinking about OT school or contemplating if it will be the right field for you... BE READY AND WILLING TO HANDLE GROUP WORK.   Saying this, I believe I need to further clarify exactly what I mean by this, and justify making this a crucial credential. ...

  • Therapeutic Hands (but I wanted to title it "Back to the Future")

This weekend college (WEC) we started presenting our projects on frames of reference and my group presented on NDT.   I was inspired to further research this by a few of the OT's that I work with and so generously loaned me their resources. :)   But, what was really neat about Saturday's class was that a NDTA instructor came in to ...

  • When I say school on the WEEKENDS...

I was looking at the ADVANCE for OT Facebook page and noticed that there were a few interested students looking to start pre-requisites and inquiring about possible OT programs/schools where they should apply.  That reminded me of when I was first looking at different OT program options.  My internal debate was whether to stop working ...

  • New Beginnings

I start my next internship in a few days and I am very excited! I think that I will really enjoy my next internship. I have had the pleasure of previously working with some of the therapist at the facility which is a big plus. So far I have loved all of my internships, but the one thing I have come to realize is that they are very expensive. I ...

  • Fieldwork Wrap-Up

Hi everyone!  I know it's been a while, but I needed some time to catch my breath after finishing Level II Fieldwork a little over a month ago.  Lots has happened since, but I'll get into that later. My second fieldwork placement was dramatically different than the first.  I was in an acute rehab setting, working primarily with ...

  • Wrapping Up My Internship

My internship is coming to an end and I am really going to miss it. I am finding it harder and harder to have to tell my patients that I will not be seeing anymore. Some of my patients I have seen since the very first week of my clinical! As with all things though I must prepare for it to come to an end. The good thing about it coming to its ...

  • A Thankful Blog

I'm all about lists this year, it seems. Well, here's another addition--my list of thanks for a wonderful year.  These are the things I am thankful for: 1. My education. With only two weeks left of academic life, and as I transition to a career in physical therapy, I am grateful for my education at Marquette University 2. My family ...

  • EKG Study Aid

In my Imaging course last year we studied EKGs and other imaging things (MRI, CT, etc.).  Anyway, we watched this video in class about Wenckebach cardiac arrhymias--I have never forgotten this EKG pattern!  The video is hysterical and very informative.

  • Back in the Lab Again

I spent last weekend in Dallas. I had to go there for a lab for my online class. Three one day labs are required. This was the first. It was also my first venture into onsite graduate education. My first class was 100 percent online. All the lectures were downloaded. I completed assignments and submitted them electronically. I never met anyone ...
